From Bach to Broadway & a Violin of Hope
Moshe Bukshpan, violin, with Lali Breen, piano

Selections from Bach Partitas, arranged by Schumann, Fiddler on the Roof, Schindler's List, Over the Rainbow, Jerusalem of Gold, Shalom from the Broadway Musical "Milk and Honey" and others. Some of the selections will be performed on the Diamant violin, a Violin of Hope.

Moshe Bukshpan, violin

Born in Tel-Aviv in 1954, Moshe began his violin studies at the age of eight with llona Feher. During these early years, Moshe performed with Shlomo Mintz, and was a featured guest artist on Israeli TV at the age of eleven. In 1973, he participated in a seminar under the guidance of Isaac Stern, Pablo Casals and Alexander Schneider.

In 1976, Moshe came to the U.S.A. and studied with Shmuel Ashkenasi of the Vermeer Quartet. He received his Master's degree in Violin Performance from Northern Illinois University and studied with Raphael Bronstein and Dorothy Delay. Moshe performed in the Aspen and Colorado Music Festival.

Since 1982, Moshe has taught strings in private studios and public schools, and has performed throughout Arizona. As the Executive Director of the festival, he oversees daily operations, marketing and hiring of artistic personnel.

The vision of Red Rocks Music Festival's founder and executive director, Moshe Bukshpan, is "to grow the Festival into a major cultural event in Arizona and convert it into a cultural magnet for music lovers from around the world.”


Lali Breen, piano

Lali Breen, piano, organ, violin, viola, has been in AZ for 25 years, coming from Los Angeles, and a musical family. (She has performed many programs with Moshe Bukshpan) Her mother was an accomplished pianist, and her early studies were with her followed by teachers from Sacramento State University, and USC. She has performed many recitals with musicians all over the valley as well as playing violin and viola with Musica Nova, Symphony of the Southwest, Symphony of the West Valley and Sweetwater Strings. She also has played International folk music, Cajun and Irish fiddle music.She has appeared with entertainers, Smokey Robinson, Donna Summer, Burt Bacharach and others.Her violin teachers included Paul Stein, of the LA Philarmonic and Noumi Fischer.

She is currently the Music Director at St James Episcopal Church in Tempe and has a duo-trio, Café’ Stringz, with her guitarist- arranger husband, Gregory Olsen.

They were invited to perform their debut concert in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, where their performance thrilled the audience and elicited multiple standing ovations. They have been enthusiastically received by audiences of all ages and walks of life in venues throughout America and in Europe. They have offered their music in large performing arts centers and churches, as well as in house concerts and in classrooms settings.

And yet through all of their successes The Rice Brothers, Johnny and Chris, are still the same sweet and friendly guys from Phoenix, devoted to sharing the beauty of music, knowing that great music, regardless of the genre, has a unique way of reaching deeply into the human heart. “Stories of Survival: An Immersive Journey Through the Holocaust”

New original exhibit depicting the stories of survivors through compelling stories of survival, immersive holographic and virtual reality technologies, historical objects, artifacts, and artwork by Robert Sutz.

The current exhibit, Stories of Survival: An Immersive Journey Through the Holocaust, in the Cutler Plotkin Jewish Heritage Center historic gallery, is currently open by appointment only.
