Eleanora Deutsch was born on December 10, 1942, to Ernst and Margaret Deutsch. By early 1944, just two years later, they went hiding into the woods outside of Rome, Italy. As the war raged, chaos ensued all around them, as Jews were still being rounded up. The situation got dire, as the Deutsch Family became desperate, which eventually leading to the three of them hiding in a hut just outside Rome.

For the rest of the war, they remained hidden in Rocca di Papa, Italy, saved by a Gentile, named Chesarina Carnevalle and her family.
