A Timely Escape:
The Choice That Saved Us
Featuring Hanna Grinberg
Holocaust Survivor
September 18, 2026
Born in Lithuania in 1937, Hanna survived the Holocaust when her mother made the swift decision to flee, narrowly escaping the massacre that claimed nearly all the Jews of her hometown. After wartime exile, she returned to Soviet Vilnius, and in 1958 emigrated to Israel.
Hanna pursued her studies, earned a master’s degree in mathematics and worked as a programmer at Israel Aircraft Industries. She married a physicist, raised three children, and in 1972 the family moved to Los Angeles, where Hanna spent 24 years as a software engineer.
She considers her children and grandchildren her greatest achievement. An avid traveler who visited more than fifty countries, Hanna cherishes her family history and treasures a photo album filled with loved ones’ messages. She shares, “We should…keep our faith and our traditions and excel in what we do in honor of all those murdered and to compensate for everything that has been lost.”
Watch the video to hear Hanna reflect on her life and legacy.
